Oleeeee, Ole, Ole, Oleeeee… Oleeeee, Oleeeeee…

This summer the world was captured with an event that rocked the fabric of mediocrity. People all around the globe were yelling, screaming, even dancing. Many painted their faces, some dressed up, others brought huge banners. Some even spent their life savings to travel to this event. If you haven't guessed yet… it was soccer's super bowl… the WORLD CUP.

As I watched South Korea make their Cinderella run I was amazed at the excitement of the crowd as they played. No one was seated, they were all standing. Ninety minutes is a long time to stand too! And while they were standing, there arose intense and vibrant chanting and cheering for their team. 75,000 fans enveloped in red madly cheered for their team, South Korea. As I watched the World Cup one word came to mind… PASSION.

Do you have passion? I'm not talking about passion for soccer, but a passion for the eternal Son of God who gave his life for you? Do you live your life with a reckless abandon for him, regardless of what people think of you? Do you passionately pursue the applause of many… or the applause of One?

It is rather different with the average American fan at a football or basketball game. The average American fan sits in his seat the whole game, forgets to wear team colors (let alone paint his face), often loses track of the score, and looks forward to the halftime show more than the game itself. He sits the entire game filling himself with quality American cuisine like hot dogs (with the works), very cheesy nachos, pretzels, salted peanuts, and other greasy foods… oh, and with a diet coke! One word comes to mind in the thought of American fans… MEDIOCRITY. We are simply average.

As I think about this school year I wonder what kind of fan of God you will be. Will you have a passion for God and things of eternity or will you simply be mediocre… average? Will you choose to follow God even when your friends don't necessarily embrace God as “cool?” Will you stand when others sit? Will you choose to clutch the feet of Jesus when others are influencing you to come with them? You do have a choice. CHOOSE WISELY. Remember, only GOD satisfies. He and only he will provide you with the joy and satisfaction your heart burns for. Jesus said, “I have come that they might have LIFE and have it to the FULLEST.” Will you believe him and follow him? The choice is yours. CHOOSE WISELY. Life is short. The rewards are yours to receive or neglect.

Jesus loves you too much to leave you where you are! Let him change you!
