The 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams closed out their seasons with 3-5-2 and 2-6-2 records, respectively. The 7th graders started out the year with three members, Hannah, Bria, and Brooke. Within a week, Gabrielle and Vargus decided to join and then Katriana around the mid-season mark. Lorien, although an 8th grader, volunteered to play with this group of ladies (as we needed a 6th individual to fill the roster) in order to gain more playing time and a better understanding of the game. Despite all of the sickness that plagued these players, they persevered well with many 8th grade substitutes along the way. Finally, the last two games of the season, they were able to all play collectively. They ended their season against Colfax-Mingo and, most certainly, played their hardest and most unified volleyball. Great Job!
The 8th grade squad consisted of Briana, Elaina, Emily, Ashlyn, Jessica, Megan, Katherine, Baily, Malinda, and Destiny. Of these 10 players, four were new this year, and two of those four had never played organized volleyball.
We covered a lot of new information! In mid-season, we played six games in a two week time period. Because of this, we were forced to use game situations to introduce new concepts. The girls remained patient and focused. By the end of the season, we were able to break the game down into more specific roles for each player on the court. Each individual was challenged to take their game to another level in preparation to uphold the Grandview volleyball tradition. They worked through the difficulties of court placement and ended their season playing their best volleyball against Colfax-Mingo. They had some long, tough rallies, and a few great saves! Way to go, girls. -Coach Liz
