The Heartland Tech Fair - April 17, 2007

On April 17, 2007 I attended the Tech fair at the Airport Holiday Inn. My class and I arrived at the hotel at 8:30 in the morning to set up our projects. We were told that our project would be judged at 10:30 and 10:45. Mr. Taylor told use that we were supposed to look around and learn about the other project. So I wondered around for a few hours and looked at some projects and talk to a couple guys who were interested in my project. I explained my project and showed all of its links, images, and music files. After a few hours my project was judged and I had to give a presentation on it, which I wasn't aware of until that morning (I must have missed that part of the lecture that Mr. Taylor gave us.) So I gave the presentation to the judges and scored a blue ribbon.

Through this entire experience I have learned how to enter .wma files as music plug-in and how to make images into rollover images and links to other pages in the web.

Overall, this whole experience was really fun and very educational.

Jake, Chad, and Devin created The Solar System and Everything Beyond It! while Chris' project examined the roots of Christian Rock Music. These projects were displayed at the Heartland Student Technology Fair April 17th.

Chris achieved blue ribbon status while Jake, Chad and Devin each received a red ribbon. Though we did better than last year, we were reminded that we have to do a better job of documenting our sources and illustrating the process of creating our projects as they come together.

The Technology Fair was a great local opportunity for our Digital Presentation students to see projects other schools are producing. It was my hope that the students and I would be encouraged by our progress as well as inspired to create even better projects and improve our technology program at Grandview Park Baptist.

Thank you students for a good showing!

In Digital Presentation we learn PowerPoint along with some basic design techniques. We then spend most of the semester learning HTML, which is the language used to code webpages.

As opportunities arise we created digital projects for our classroom teachers. We have created a CD-ROM program which is now being used in the fourth grade to teach and review the states and capitols.

As we have interest and ability we may move on into Dig Pres II+ where our number one job in is to update the school website. We handle most of the mundane task of updating the text. More interestingly we learn and gain experience in editing photos, creating original works, making rollovers, buttons, and slideshows.
