You've heard it said, "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything." At Grandview Park Baptist Church, we're not simply standing for something; we're standing for someone, that is, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. [1]
Just as a person can't stand for something unless they know what it is they're standing for, you can't stand for Jesus Christ unless you know Him , and a person can know Jesus Christ only from the Bible. Jesus said, "The Scriptures testify about me." [2] It is by believing what the Scriptures say about Jesus Christ that one is able to stand for Jesus Christ. [3]
Grandview Park Baptist Church stands for Jesus Christ. He is our foundation. [4] We stand for Jesus Christ because we stand on the Bible. The Bible says that the church is the "pillar and foundation of the truth, [5] "that is, the church is to uphold the truth that God has revealed to the world through His Word, the Bible, about His Son, Jesus Christ.
At Grandview Park Baptist Church , Jesus Christ is building a church with people who believe in the Truth. [6] We believe that our church is to uphold the truth of God's Word. Just as pillars support a building, Grandview Park Baptist Church is supported by the Five Pillars of Ministry: Word, Worship, Work, Walk, Witness.
[1] Matthew 16:16 [2] John 5:39 [3] Romans 10:17 [4] Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 2:20 [5] 1 Timothy 3:15
Word
We believe the Bible is the Word of God. [7] The Bible is the way to know God's one and only Son, Jesus Christ, who is the Truth sent from God. [8] People are searching for something that provides answers to the questions of life. We believe that the Bible provides such an answer, and that is why the preaching and teaching of God's Word is a priority at Grandview Park Baptist Church .
We believe that people need to hear what God has to say on the subject. The Word of God is powerful. [9] For this reason, we believe the Bible is the means of our church's growth in God's grace. From our Children's Ministries to our Student Ministries and all the way through to our Adult Ministries, the Bible is taught so that real answers are found for real life..
[7] 2 Timothy 3:16 [8] John 1:14; 17:3 [9] Hebrews 4:12, 13
Worship
We believe all of life is worship. [10] Worship is my response to God with all that I am for all that He is. [11] God created everything. [12] He created you. Everything is created with a God-ordained purpose. [13] You were created to bring glory to God! [14] God-ordained worship is satisfying to the worshiper and glorifying to the One who is worshiped.
True worship engages both the heart and the head. The engagement of the heart in worship is the awakening of the feelings, the emotions, and the affections of the heart to God. [15] Where feelings for God are dead, worship is dead. [16] The engagement of the mind in worship is through the knowledge of God in His Word and by His Spirit. [17] A worshiper is informed and inspired by the One who is to be worshiped. [18] Where there is no true knowledge of God, worship is empty. [19]
[10] Romans 12:1, 2 [11] Matthew 22:37 [12] Acts 4:24; 17:28 [13] Psalm 19:1 [14] 1 Corinthians 10:31
WorkWe believe prayer is the "sweat drops of desire" for God from His saints. [20] Prayer is work. A Christian is to be devoted to it. [21] Prayer is not some passive religious exercise of saying prescribed words so that God will pay attention to us or provide for our needs. Such prayers God will not hear nor will He answer. [22] It is not a matter of the right prayer but the right pray-er. In other words, the person praying must be right with God. [23] Prayer is the believer's expression of his relationship with God [24]. Jesus said, "Apart from me you can do nothing." [25]
Grandview Park Baptist Church holds weekly prayer meetings, regularly scheduled Concerts of Prayer, an annual Prayer Week, and many other opportunities for the church to get down on our knees and cry out to our God. God's work cannot be done without prayer. [26]
[20] Luke 22:39-46 [21] Colossians 4:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:17 [22] Matthew 6:5-8 [23] Romans 5:1, 2
Walk
We believe a church member ought to "walk the talk." The Apostle Paul wrote to one of the first churches and commanded them to "conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ." [27] A worthy walk is a Christ-walk. Jesus said, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." [28] Following Jesus means forsaking all others and all things for Him alone. [29]
When Christians live beautiful and holy lives in a hostile and broken world, Jesus Christ will be seen and people's eternity will be changed. [30] It does make a difference when people see the difference Christ has made in you. Living differently is only possible by the Holy Spirit. [31] New life is in Jesus Christ and the new way of living is because He lives within. [32]
[27] Philippians 1:27 [28] Luke 9:23 [29] Matthew 10:37-39 [30] Matthew 5:16; 1 Peter 2:12
Witness
We believe every disciple of Jesus Christ is to be a witness of the good news, that is, the Gospel. [33] Every witness of Jesus Christ at the beginning of the church simply spoke what he had "seen and heard." [34] Many Christians today mistakenly think that unless they have an unusual story to tell, with some dramatic ending, no one will believe in the Gospel.
Some Christians are more gifted in telling the Good News of Jesus Christ than others, yet every disciple is called by God to be a bold witness for His Son, Jesus. Each person who has received the Gospel is to give the Gospel to someone who hasn't received it yet. We will not reach everyone, but by God's grace we will reach some. [35] We encourage you to be a bold, biblical witness for your Lord Jesus Christ.
