The Gospel

At Grandview Park Baptist Church, we believe the Gospel is the “good news of Jesus Christ.” [1] It is the story of God's one and only Son who became a man by the power of the Holy Spirit. [2] His birth was unique. He was born of a virgin. His life was unique. He never sinned. [3] He never did or said anything that displeased God. In fact, God said of Jesus, “This is my Son whom I love and who pleases me.” [4]

Jesus said, “I am the only way to God.” [5] He either lied or told the truth. If he lied, then he would have displeased God. If he told the truth, and we believe that he did, then any other way except Jesus' way does not go to God. Many people believe there are many ways to God. [6] Do you believe them? Or do you believe Jesus, who claimed He alone is the only way to God?

All men are born in sin and are dead to spiritual life. [7] All men sin because they are sinners. [8] Sin separates a man from God and condemns him to eternal death by God. [9] Sin is the reason a man lives his life apart from God.  What a man cannot do through his own good works, that is, to be accepted by God, Jesus did for man upon the Cross. [10] Jesus, the sinless Son of God, became the substitutionary sacrifice for man's sin. [11] It is the death of Christ that provides eternal life for man. [12]

A person is accepted by God when by faith he turns from his sin and trusts in the finished work of Christ upon the Cross. [13] To be accepted by God means that God no longer sees you condemned in your sin, but He sees your sin canceled, that is you are forgiven. This gift of forgiveness and eternal life is through the Word of God by the Spirit of God transforming a fallen sinner into a favored son of God. [14]

The Gospel is more than an escape from hell; it will be the enjoyment of heaven forever, yet it is to be enjoyed now while on earth. [15]  We would love to share the whole story with you or you can read it for yourself in the Bible.
